About

I am a Houston-based editorial and sports photojournalist. I am able to edit, caption AP Style cut lines, and transmit on location to meet deadlines.  I am able to cover assignments in the greater Houston, Bryan / College Station, Huntsville, and other surrounding areas of Southeast Texas with as little notice as 24 hours.

I originally started Joe Buvid Photography back in 2008 while I was a student attending Sam Houston State University (SHSU).  While attending SHSU, I began freelancing for The Huntsville Item's - IT'z Magazine and The Houstonian, the student newspaper of SHSU.  I worked as a stringer for The Houstonian for a semester before being hired on as a staff photographer.  I was promoted to head photographer my senior year.  During my time with The Houstonian, I was fortunate enough to win multiple Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) awards, for both sports photography and editorial published materials and in on-site competitions.

I graduated from Sam Houston State in the fall of 2010 with a BBA in Economics and Marketing.  After college, I moved back to Houston and wanted to continue covering sports and news. I became a freelancer for a local area newspaper, the Conroe Courier.  I am currently a regular freelancer for the University of Houston and the Houston Chronicle.
